Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
A blameless life is a life devoid of wrongdoing. A blameless man is irreproachable. A blameless man is upright. David had a beautiful heart, he prayed the above prayer, that God would shield him from willful sins.
This essentially what Jesus Christ wants from the church. Whilst teaching the disciples how to pray, he said:
“..And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil….” Mathew 6:13
God wants us to live a life devoid of willful sin. I have heard many say, we are in the era of grace, but as the Apostle Paul says:
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Romans 6:1&2
God loves those who have a pure heart, so much that not having a pure heart is a hindrance to answered prayers:
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;– Psalm 66:18 (NIV)May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
