timeThe Day I’ll never forget
Innately I’m not a birthday person, and I hardly remember the birthdates of people, not even that of my Mum and Dad. I’ll however never forget 31st March 2012. Not because it’s my Dad’s birthday, but because on that day something tragic happened to me:

It was a blissful Friday morning. My dad, who is usually a very busy man, gave us the shock of our lives when he surprised us with a visit. We were so happy and overwhelmed. When he entered my apartment, we had to roll up the curtains since he claimed the room was stuffy. We had a brief but exciting family interaction, after which he took off to Accra. By that time, I was already late for my usual Friday fellowship meeting, so I hurried there.

During this period, my tenure of office as financial secretary was about expiring and I was consequently obliged to prepare financial accounts for the fellowship as well as have them audited. After the fellowship meeting, my brother left for a watch night service. “Lock the door,” he said, then he left, rendering me lonesome in the room. I did heed to him by locking the front door, however the balcony door was not locked since I didn’t expect to sleep.  The week was indeed a very tiring one, however I was very determined to finish the accounts and the last thing I anticipated was to sleep.

The shock of my life
I woke up at 3:00 AM to receive the shock of my life! There was this man, wearing some ugly clothes and a mask. He looked really scary. I thought to myself, “Is this a dream?” Seriously, I couldn’t believe it! He moved out of the door and reemerged, pointing a gun to my head. “Give me the money,” He said. “This is a real gun, if you joke with me, I’ll kill you!” My heart began to race and pound. Somehow, I knew I wouldn’t die; however I prayed to God to have mercy on me. With this being my first robbery attack, coupled by the fact that I had just woken up from sleep and was unprepared for this, I had a freeze response and fell into automatic obedience. I did all he asked, that he might spare my life. Ultimately, this man not only maltreated me, but also robbed me of some of the most treasured things in my life. This included all the churches’ money, my laptop and my new phone.  My laptop for example had 7 years of culminated work on it. It had my sweat, my toil and my blood! These were works that had taken years of experience and sleepless nights to build. Some of the works were valued at thousands of dollars. I was in so much distress!

The divine revelation
I trusted God, and he gradually restored me. He has especially blessed me with financial wealth, and all the items that were robbed were replaced with superior ones, including a modern laptop with a terabyte of space. Of course, I survived this, otherwise I wouldn’t be telling this story and though all my projects were delayed, I had the wisdom and grace from God to remake most of them.
My current concern is thus not with the items that I lost rather, about the fact that most Christians are blindly heading towards this track. Please get this from me: Jesus is coming like a thief, when you least expect it! Seriously, this is true. Ignore this if you want to die! The bible says in Revelation 16:15

“Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

How I wish I had heeded fully to instruction and had prepared enough against that robbery. As it is with many Christians, we hear the word of God and ignore it. We hear the message of repentance and say, Tomorrow! Ah, I weep for these ones, for how dreadful it will be on that day for such people!

Luke 12:39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

The bible describes vividly how this event will occur:

“… so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. “ Mathew 24 37-40

The world cannot save you, come to Jesus!
The masses are fully engaged in worldly activities, longing for wealth, and forgetting about God. Do not be deceived, wealth cannot buy salvation, and wealth can disappear in a split second. Go to the book of proverbs and you’ll discover that:

“… riches certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.” Proverbs 23:5

My fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord, I solemnly warn you to heed to instruction and devote your lives wholly to Christ, living as strangers in this world. We came into this world with nothing, and with nothing shall we leave. The Day of Judgment is fast approaching, and no one knows the day or the hour. Those who mourn will be of those who heard the word, but didn’t give ear to instruction. Please don’t be caught unguarded. Examine yourself inside out and validate your progress with this question: I’m I prepared for His second coming?
