Finding it difficult to trust God?

Trust in GodI’ve been there too; I know how it feels like. I was in a queue, with a bunch of people behind me. I was the first in the line, and I seemed to be ahead of everybody. In front of me, stood this man. He was dark, and I didn’t know him much. I can’t really remember the place, but it looked really strange. This man, whom I didn’t know much and was trying to know, told me to fall to the ground, and that he would catch me. I stared at him, puzzled. I didn’t understand why on earth I would do that. To start with, I didn’t know him much and was trying to know him. What if I fell down and he didn’t catch me? I would be disgraced. The man however persuaded me further. I was still not dissuaded from my stance of not trusting him. I was then pushed aside since I was wasting the time of those behind me.  Behind me was a lady. This lady put her trust in this man. She fell to the ground freely, without fear of falling. To my surprise, this man caught the lady in his arms. Indeed, not only did he catch her, she flowed in a supernatural experience and had the peace of God flow through her. Ironically, I was now down from the height I thought I was maintaining by not falling. I then thought twice and said: “No, I must put my trust in this man”. I run back to the man to start all over again. I then woke up, with my heart racing. It had been a dream.
As I thought about this dream, I said to myself: “In the bible Satan tempted Jesus to fall from the height. This must have been the devil!” The Holy Spirit however guided me in interpreting this dream. The man I was trying to know was actually not the devil. He represented God himself. All he was telling me to do was to put my trust him. I know I’ve had this struggle for some time now and I’ve been praying about it fervently. As I prayed, God laid these scriptures on my heart. They give me more than enough reason to trust in God and I want to share them with you:

No one trusts in Him and is put to shame

As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” Romans 10:11

He never forsakes those who seek Him
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:10

He makes perfect the ways of those who trust in him
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

He will never harm us!
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11

Personally, the above scriptures give me reason enough to trust in him. Like in the dream, most of us wonder: “I don’t know God that much, what shows that I can trust him”. I want to assure you that the bible is true, and that no one puts his trust in him and is disappointed.

Just as it is difficult to put your life in the hands of a novice neurosurgeon, so it is to trust someone you barely know. Our God however is no stranger in the arena of trust. Like in the dream, many have depended on him and have never been put to shame; talk about Abraham, Moses and Daniel. It’s so heartwarming that I can finally have someone to fully depend on and trust in. To all who are struggling with trusting God, may the Holy Spirit touch your hearts and guide you with these words and cause you to trust Him. God bless you!
